Best Of DC

Best Of DC: Restaurants

Washington DC doesn’t get enough credit for its food scene. We have world-renowned chefs, great breweries, innovative fast-casual concepts and everything in between popping up here left and right.

There are so many restaurants to choose from in DC, covering all types of cuisines, all price ranges and all neighborhoods.

Below is just a few of our favorite locally-owned restaurants. For our entire list, check out the Best Of DC map, where we map out not only our favorite restaurants, but our favorite coffee places and much more.

zaytinya

Zaytinya

Chef Jose Andres is the top-dog in the Washington DC culinary scene. He owns DC-staples such as Jaleo and Oyamel, but our favorite by far is Zaytinya. Perfect for an upscale business lunch or a nice dinner out, Zaytinya serves amazing Mediterranean tapas. The tapas style is perfect for trying a bunch of different dishes either individually or family style, and the prices are reasonable for the quality and ambiance.

mintwood place

Mintwood Place

Not so much a hidden gem anymore, Mintwood Place is a French-inspired restaurant in Kalorama. Don’t let the ambiance fool you– while it may seem to be on the casual side, you’ll receive absolute top-quality service from every member of the Mintwood team from the moment you step foot in the restaurant until the moment you leave, and the food reflects that as well. Every single item on the menu is delicious.

the pig

The Pig

If you enjoy cured meats, The Pig will be your own little version of heaven. The Pig is a self-described pig-centric American-style restaurant. They serve breakfast, brunch, happy hour, dinner and dessert so you’re covered from morning to night. The Pig serves some of the most delicious cuts of cured meats available in DC. Maybe not the spot to try if you’re a vegan or vegetarian, but otherwise a must-try.

momiji

Momiji

Momiji is a no-frills Japanese restaurant located in Chinatown. While the general rule of thumb is to be weary of no-frills sushi establishments, Momiji is the exception to the rule. Delicious sushi, fast service and unbelievable happy hour prices, Momiji is a staple in the Gallery Place neighborhood.
